Took it to bits and found a factory wired loop between the PSU 5v supply and the board in the function generator. Didnt have one so knocked up a cable and stuck it on my bench supply. After a few minutes or debugging and reading it turned out you need a separate wall wart to power it because unlike all the other instruments it doesn't take power from the main IEC inlet. The specific problem I had with the one I repaired was the frequency counter was dead. The power has an output cap that is quite large and will quite happily dump into your circuit before the current limit hits. The function generator is distorted at the top end. The meter is pretty much impossible to calibrate against a voltage ref on all ranges. ![]() If anything goes pop, you're stuck with all of it on the bench.
